No amount of
convincing could make the farmers follow modern agricultural
technologies unless they actually see how those could
benefit them. So, to satisfy the notion
'to-see-is-to-believe' attitude of farmers and even
professional orchard growers, establishment of technology
demonstration centers in different strategic places in the
country is necessary to convince them to adopt new
technologies and cultivars, particularly, the multiple
rootstock breakthrough. |

Left photo shows NEUST
Pres. Atty. Hilario C. Ortiz (left) and Bernardo "Ka
Bernie" Dizon affix their signatures on a memorandum of
agreement (MOA) that sets up a plant nursery in the
three campuses of NEUST in Sumacab (half-hectare), Atate
(half-hectare) and Gabaldon (unlimited area). Right
photo shows Department of Agriculture Region 3 Director
Redentor Gatus (behind) peering over the signed MOA. At
extreme right is Magtanggol C. Vilar, a partner of "Ka
Bernie" in the plant nursery business since 1995
promoting the culture of high-value fruit trees, using
multiple-rooted technology which hastens the fruiting
period of the fruit trees without using too much
pesticides and fertilizer. Impressed by Dizon's
technology, Gatus granted Dizon and Ortiz's request for
a farmers' training center at NEUST-Sumacab compound in
Cabanatuan City. (Ver Sta. Ana) |
